Review
Surely one of the most bizarre albums of 2002, Hillside Railway Stations peculiar blend of almost twee synthpop and death metal lyrical tropes should go together like a horse and marriage. Yes, it is clearly a gimmick. But it never sounds contrived, nor suffers the fate of many such efforts that dont know who they are for or what they are supposed to be. HRS know exactly what they are supposed to be, and are clearly determined to have a lot of fun being it. Four stars, for the sheer novelty value if nothing else. ★★★★☆
